At
Martha’s Vineyard
A
southerly breeze came from across the ocean blowing directly up the slope of
the beach off Katama Bay. The wind is building now, making cross lines on the
swells that themselves will gain in size as the day passes, rolls that will
turn to breakers in the surf pushing the sand up and back with wave upon wave.
In this
morning light, the ocean is still a blue grey color but will change to deeper
hues of navy and aquamarine as the sun climbs. Waves beyond the break line a
mile or so off the shore catch the sun, and from our vantage they sparkle,
mirage like as if heat were rising from some asphalt road several miles out.
Though
low in the sky, the sun provides warmth enough, helped by the southerly wind.
It is peaceful here just now, before the crowds arrive to spend the day.
